One possible description of music is that it is architecture around silence.
This program centers around this notion: John Cage exploring the silences within the continuous resonance, Hovhaness's improvisatory passages interspersed with pauses, Mozart using silence as drama, Catlin Smith allowing the music to decay, and finally Godowsky's meditative evocation of Javanese music---leading to a celebratory conclusion.
