It is always an invigorating experience as a performer and a composer like myself to perceive different musical time periods in succession, one after the other, while also being conscious to one's own sense of place and time.
The contemporary composer Henri Dutilleux, and the late-baroque composer Jean-Philippe Rameau, are both French composers. However, their individual compositional styles could not be more contrasting. From Dutilleux's idiosyncratic harmonic language and utilization of resonance and silences to the piano's furthest capabilities; to Rameau's balance of consonance and dissonance, ornamentation and line, simplicity and complexity.
Each piece on this program follows without interruption---blurring the contemporary and baroque periods with one's own sense of time.
