Join us at Barsky Gallery for an intimate evening of solo piano surrounded by contemporary art, featuring two remarkable pianist-composers with distinct and adventurous musical voices.
The evening will open with pianist and composer Jake Hart, performing his latest solo piano composition from memory. The work continues his project Collage, a deeply imaginative musical language that draws from a wide range of composers while creating the sensation of something unfolding spontaneously in the moment. The result is music that feels both carefully crafted and completely alive.
Hart is signed with Sunnyside Records, which released his debut album Collage on May 3, 2024. The album received praise in the Los Angeles Jazz Scene, where reviewer Scott Yanow wrote that “the two Parts sound spontaneous and bridge the gap between modern classical music and jazz.” Jake has also participated in numerous international competitions and performed at notable venues including Birdland Jazz Club, Mezzrow, and the Umbria Jazz Festival.
After an intermission, acclaimed pianist and composer Ethan Iverson will perform a solo piano set. Iverson is known for his intellectually engaging style, blending a deep command of jazz tradition with a modern, adventurous approach.
An American jazz pianist, composer, and writer, Ethan Iverson is best known as a founding member of the influential trio The Bad Plus, where he helped redefine the modern piano trio by bringing together jazz, rock, classical, and avant-garde influences. Since leaving the group in 2017, Iverson has built an acclaimed solo career, recorded for Blue Note, and collaborated with leading jazz artists. He is also a respected critic and educator, known for his insightful writing on music history and improvisation.
