About

Formed in February 2022 by music director and conductor Thibault Back de Surany, the Van Swietens believe the gap between "early" and "new" music is not as wide as one might think. The ensemble is named after Baron Van Swieten, the Dutch ambassador who promoted baroque music in late 18th century Vienna. The ensemble consists of members from over 13 different countries.

Music

The Van Swietens perform lesser known Baroque, Classical, and Romantic works. The ensemble also often works with composers to premiere newly commissioned works.
