Sumi Lee is a classically trained pianist with a Master’s in Music and Piano Performance from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. She has worked with Bay Area opera companies, choruses, and schools. A trained tango pianist, she studied at La Orquesta Escuela de Tango Emilio Balcarce in Buenos Aires, performing with legendary maestros. A concert with the Balcarce Orchestra at Teatro San Martín was sold out and aired on National Radio 2×4 & TV Pública Argentina.

Since returning, she has toured the U.S., South Korea, and Canada, performing at the SF International Arts Festival in 2020, 2021, and 2023 with Las Almas. She co-founded the all-women tango orchestra Solidaridad and runs Golden Gate Int’l Artists, supporting underrepresented musicians.

Lee serves on the MTAC San Francisco board and teaches at Hamlin Girls’ School. She is releasing new EP & LP albums in 2025 and is on the CU Tango Music Workshop faculty.
