Double Bass
About
I am a double bassist motivated by the power of audience connection and the universal nature of musical communication.
My favorite thing about music is the endless repertoire, techniques, and skills to explore. When given an opportunity to perform a recital, I take programming very seriously, and want to put together an event that is welcoming, moving, and exciting.
I received my Master of Music from The Peabody Institute of JHU with Nina DeCesare and my Bachelor of Music from The Juilliard School with Joseph Conyers, Rex Surany, and Albert Laszlo. I was a 2024 Sarasota Music Festival fellow and have performed with the Charleston Symphony Orchestra (sub) and Turkish American Orchestra.
Hope to connect soon!
Music
While many think of the double bass as solely an orchestral instrument, its warmth and range, combined with innovations in technique and pedagogy that have been discovered over the last century, have allowed it to become a wonderful solo and chamber music instrument. I often play with piano or violin.
I particularly enjoy chamber music because every player is so involved, and the music is very alive on stage, since the nonverbal communication is so strong.
I play a wide variety of classical music, from solo bach to modern works that blend genres. I also believe in the importance of playing music by composers belonging to groups that have been underrepresented or marginalized in the classical canon. I have a particular interest in works by French female composers of the Romantic era, such as Henriette ReniƩ and Nadia Boulanger.
