Full program notes

Mono-program of Maurice Ravel’s works:

Valses nobles et sentimentales, M. 61
Pavane pour une infante defunte, M. 19
Le tombeau de Couperin, M. 68

This year marks a very important year in the whole classical music - 150 years since Maurice Ravel was born. His input in the piano music, as well as symphonic and chamber music, was truly extraordinary, and his piano works, specifically “Gaspard de la nuit”, are among the most performed and played works in the world. In this program, however, I will play something else - a cycle of “Noble and sentimental waltzes”, “Pavane for a dead princess”, and “The tomb of Couperin”. Interestingly enough, all this works are made of dances, either Baroque dances, or romantic dances (waltzes), but with a new, more “modern”, enriched meaning. Ravel’s musical world is the one that we can fully call “magical”, without any hesitation, as the range of colors and characters in his music is enormous, and hopefully I can show it with this program!
