The Trinity Alps Chamber Music Festival celebrates its ninth season in style, by bringing a special program to San Francisco on Friday, August 2.
Only a longtime Groupmuse performer such as the festival director Ian Scarfe would try simultaneously capturing the casual intimacy of a living room atmosphere within the formal elegance of a Julia-Morgan-designed ballroom in San Francisco's Century Club. His confidence in the matter is no doubt bolstered by beer and wine sponsors, including Lagunitas Brewing Company, as well as the cast of musicians coming from around the world to be a part of the show.
One of the highlights of this year's festival will be collaborative performances with soprano Jamie-Rose Guarrine. Guarrine has helped broaden the field of vocal-chamber music by commissioning settings of poems by Emily Dickenson for soprano, cello, and piano by composer Scott Gendel.
Guarrine will also be joined by Scarfe on piano and a string ensemble for a performance of one of Mozart's wildest Concert Arias - "Ch'io mi scordi di te?" K. 505. Written as a farewell piece to one of his favorite sopranos, Nancy Storace, Mozart felt that he had to include a part for himself to perform along side her - so we have this wondrous piece that is half-opera-aria, and half-piano-concerto.
What's the music?
