Let's get real for a second.
In July of 1941, French composer Olivier Messiaen premiered his masterwork, Quartet For The End Of Time, in a prisoner-of-war camp on broken-down instruments, withered and battered by a world at war, to the rapt attention of 400 prisoners and guards - souls who lived every day at the very verge of apocalypse. It has gone on to become recognized as perhaps the preeminent expression of war-time sorrow and horror and hope; and it's a piece that'll reverberate through the ages.
These are not those days. But they are days nonetheless, and this piece is as urgent and as powerful as it was back on that summer day in 1941. So it's with an enormous amount of pride that we're presenting this piece in its potent entirety, for a Massivemuse at Monument, one of our very favorite places to Massive.
With an ensemble featuring Groupmuse heroes James Jaffe on the cello, Ian Scarfe on the piano, Rachel Patrick on the violin, and Matthew Boyles on the clarinet, plus a video/photo introduction to Messiaen and this monumental masterpiece, it'll be a Massivemuse that'll shatter and redeem us.
It's BYOB, tickets are $20 ($15 for supermusers) and we can't wait to share with you.
