Begin the season with Handel’s magnificent L’Allegro, il Penseroso ed il Moderato, a richly imaginative setting of John Milton’s poetry that explores the contrasting temperaments within us: the joyful and extroverted, the contemplative and introspective, and the voice that seeks a balance between them. One of Handel’s most celebrated works before Messiah, this expansive ode to the human spirit moves effortlessly between exuberant choruses, lyrical arias, pastoral scenes, and moments of profound reflection.

Under the direction of Jonathan Cohen, the Handel & Haydn Society Orchestra and Chorus are joined by soprano Joélle Harvey, tenor Paul Appleby, bass-baritone Michael Sumuel, and spoken-word artist Regie Gibson. Together, they bring Milton’s vivid philosophical world to life through music of remarkable color, energy, and emotional range. Experience this extraordinary work at Symphony Hall and discover how Handel transforms the tension between opposing ways of seeing the world into something beautiful. Through Groupmuse Nights Out, tickets are available at a supremely discounted price. 🎶
