Come join us for a little night music this October
A cozy evening of live music, good company, and an intimate program for cello and piano featuring music by Schumann, Fauré, Saint-Saëns, Villa-Lobos, Lili Boulanger, Piazzolla, and more.
Bring yourself, grab a drink, and settle in for a relaxed night of music up close. Can’t wait to have you!
What's the music?
A lyrical and intimate program for cello and piano, moving through Romantic fantasy, nocturnes, songs, and dreamlike miniatures.
The evening will feature Schumann’s Fantasiestücke, Saint-Saëns’s The Swan, Villa-Lobos’s Song of the Black Swan, Fauré’s Après un rêve, Lili Boulanger’s Nocturne, Piazzolla’s Ave Maria, and more.
Where does this music come from?
This program brings together music written across Europe and Latin America from the 19th and 20th centuries.
Schumann, Saint-Saëns, Fauré, and Lili Boulanger come from the European Romantic and early modern traditions, where composers often used instrumental music to evoke poetry, dreams, nature, and intimate emotion. Villa-Lobos brought Brazilian musical influences into the classical tradition, while Piazzolla transformed Argentine tango into a deeply expressive concert style.
Although these composers came from very different places and generations, their music shares a strong sense of lyricism, atmosphere, and storytelling.
