What's the music?
Since this concert is taking place on Mother's Day, I think it will be fitting to have a program celebrating the works and arrangements of women composers.
I'll be playing pieces on flute, piccolo, alto flute and bass flute by modern and historical composers including Philadelphia born Amanda Harberg, Valerie Coleman, Katherine Hoover, Chris Potter, Katrina Penman and more.
Each short work by these diverse composers represents a variety of backgrounds including black, latin american, and native american perspectives.
Where does this music come from?
This program of solo flute music spans works throughout the 20th and 21st centuries by composers who have largely been overlooked. Arrangers such as Chris Potter are also bringing to light diversity of instrumentation among the flute family.
