Discover the music that helped shape a genius with Groupmuse Nights Out, offering discounted tickets to a fascinating Baroque journey with ARTEK. At Saint Ignatius of Antioch Episcopal Church on Saturday, April 11 at 7:00 PM, this illuminating program explores the legacy of Johann Adam Reincken, the towering musical figure of 17th-century Hamburg who profoundly influenced the young Johann Sebastian Bach. As a teenager, Bach carefully copied Reincken’s monumental fantasia An Wasserflüssen Babylon and even adapted his chamber music for keyboard—an early glimpse of the brilliance to come. In this richly curated concert, ARTEK brings Reincken’s elegant chamber and harpsichord works to life alongside Bach pieces inspired by his mentor’s style, revealing a vibrant musical lineage rarely heard on today’s stages.

Performed by an outstanding roster of period specialists—Cynthia Freivogel and guest Tekla Cunningham on violins, Arnie Tanimoto on viola da gamba, Daniel Swenberg on baroque lute, and Gwendolyn Toth on harpsichord—the program unfolds with color, virtuosity, and historical insight. Arrive early for a 6:15 PM pre-concert lecture by Sara Ruhle Kyle, offering context for this musical conversation across generations. With Groupmuse Nights Out discounted tickets, this is a rare opportunity to hear the sounds that shaped Bach’s imagination in the warm acoustics of one of Manhattan’s most beautiful church spaces. ✨
