🎹✨ Join your fellow Groupmusers for a dazzling celebration of Maurice Ravel’s 150th birthday, on Friday, December 5, 2025 at 7:30 PM at Merkin Hall (Kaufman Music Center).
Under Karén Hakobyan’s direction, Pegasus: The Orchestra will present a luminous evening of impressionistic color, French refinement, and neoclassical wit.
Featured on the program:
Ravel – Le Tombeau de Couperin: A suite of six movements, each honoring a fallen friend from World War I—Baroque dance forms reimagined through Ravel’s shimmering harmonic language.
Ravel – Introduction and Allegro (arranged by Hakobyan): Originally a virtuosic chamber showpiece for harp, flute, clarinet, and string quartet, here expanded into orchestral form, offering glints of harp brilliance and ensemble finesse.
Prokofiev – Symphony No. 1, “Classical”: Stravinsky-esque in spirit, this playful, compact symphony pays homage to Haydn’s style with crisp textures, balanced lines, and zippy interplay.
Then, after intermission:
Ravel – Pavane pour une infante défunte: Elegiac, graceful, and suffused with wistful nostalgia—this beloved miniature is often described as a musical portrait of memory.
Ravel – Piano Concerto in G Major: A radiant fusion of jazz, lyricism, and virtuosity—featuring Nicolas Namoradze at the piano as soloist—and complete with playful dialogues, lyrical beauty, and Ravel’s characteristic orchestral sparkle.
This is your chance to hear an evening where Ravel’s imagination—and reverence for the past—shines bright. 🎶
✨ Discounted tickets are made possible through Groupmuse’s Nights Out program, bringing this radiant celebration within reach. Don’t miss this chance to experience Ravel’s genius up close—reserve your seat today!
