Groupmusers will check in at a table at the entrance by last name. Seating is first come, first served, by assigned section.
In honor of the 400th anniversary of the death of Orlando Gibbons (1583–1625), ARTEK brings to life selections from The First Sett of Madrigals and Mottets of 5 parts (1612) — music suffused with introspection, elegance, and the bittersweet passage of time.
The centerpiece is the famed madrigal “The Silver Swan”, whose stirring text draws on the legend that a swan sings only once, in the moment before its death — a metaphor for creative and emotional finality.
Around this, ARTEK will weave other less-familiar madrigals and motets from Gibbons’s collection, setting texts of loss, longing, and quiet grief, all scored for voices and viols in exquisite early-English counterpoint.
The voices—sopranos Clara Rottsolk & Kim Leeds, tenors Nickolas Karageorgiou & Andrew Fuchs, bass Peter Becker—are joined by viol consorts (Arnie Tanimoto, Ryan Cheng, Charlie Reed, Nicholas Kleinman, Motomi Igarashi), lute (Grant Herreid), and keyboard (Gwendolyn Toth) to shape an immersive sonic tapestry.
🎟️ And here’s your chance: through Groupmuse’s Nights Out program, discounted tickets are available — making this delicate, moving program more accessible to those who love early music. Don’t let this rare evening pass you by — reserve your seat and prepare to be carried away by voices, strings, and the tender power of Gibbons’s farewell.
