What's the music?
Welcome to an evening of timeless American music filled with the twists, turns and musical mischief associated with jazz. Tonight’s performance promises a blend of inventive improvisations, and heartfelt storytelling. Each song on this program represents a unique voice in jazz history, brought to life with fresh arrangements and the dynamic interplay of our talented ensemble. Some of our favorite composers will be featured, including Thelonious Monk (Known for his angular melodies, complex harmonies, and unorthodox rhythms), Gershwin (known for bridging the worlds of classical music and jazz), Abbey Lincoln (a fearless storyteller and activist whose music resonated with themes of love, struggle, and liberation), Rodgers & Hart (who as a team created some of the most beloved songs in American musical theate), Charlie Parker (A trailblazer of the bebop movement who pushed the boundaries of jazz into thrilling new territory ) and more.
