We are so thrilled to welcome two leading queer voices in the old time music scene. Enjoy an intimate evening of solo sets with the duo joining forces to close out the night.
What's the music?
Join Morgan Harris for a selection of music from her latest solo record, Alone Will Tell (released Nov 1st, 2024). She’ll be performing a collection of traditional tunes and songs with just her guitar and voice, drawn from historic source recordings of driving fiddle breakdowns, hypnotic banjo pieces and austere mountain ballads. This is the music she has continually found herself drawn to in quiet, solitary moments, and it has been shaped by long familiarity and patient questioning. Morgan’s first release as an out trans musician, Alone Will Tell is a meditation on the transformative potential of looking inward.
Where does this music come from?
The tunes and songs on this program represent many different threads in old time stringband music, a rural folk music tradition that stems from singing and playing styles from before the advent of commercial recording. They are drawn from a variety of sources - from archival field recordings of fiddlers in the 1930s and 1940s, to recordings from more recent tradition-bearers who specialize in this older style.
