Micah Chan @micahchan
Cello
About
Micah Chan began playing the cello at age four and currently studies with Brinton Averil Smith. His previous teachers and mentors include Madeleine Golz, Amy Barston at the Juilliard School’s Pre-College Division, Leo Singer, Horacio Contreras, and Hans Jørgen Jensen.
As a soloist, Micah performed with the Dwight-Englewood Orchestra after winning the school's concerto competition. He has appeared in master classes led by distinguished artists such as Paul Watkins, Astrid Schween, Peter Stumpf, and the Quartetto di Cremona; and has participated in summer festivals such as Meadowmount, Center Stage Strings, and Credo.
Driven by a passion for musical storytelling, Micah finds joy in connecting with intimate audiences through his expressive voice of the cello. He is especially drawn to repertoire that explores vulnerability, lyricism, and emotional depth.
