Hello! I'm Kate Mayfield, a violinist passionate about sharing the gift of music. I’ve performed in diverse settings—from classical orchestras to jazz venues and recording studios. Classically trained, I am a core member of the Boise Philharmonic and the Ballet West Orchestra, where I hold a tenured position. I also perform with ensembles like the Grammy-winning San Francisco Ballet Orchestra and the Utah Symphony. Beyond classical music, I explore jazz, Broadway, pop, folk, and fiddle, collaborating with artists like Ms. Lauryn Hill and performing at SFJAZZ.

I love putting on accessible recitals that create a welcoming atmosphere. Music should be fun and inclusive, so I design performances as low-pressure experiences where audiences can relax and enjoy. Whether pairing music with great food and drinks or curating a diverse program, my goal is for everyone to have a great time.

Music

My repertoire spans a wide range of styles and eras, including anything from classical masterpieces to contemporary popular works. My recitals always have a theme or storyline, and I mindfully select pieces that fit together to create a cohesive musical journey.

My love for the Romantic and early 20th-century traditions leads me to play works such as Kreisler’s Schön Rosmarin, Elgar’s Salut d’Amour, and Beach’s Romance. What can I say, I'm a romantic! In contrast, I love to feature timeless classics, such as Bach’s Partitas and Sonatas for solo violin, alongside contemporary works, like Reena Esmail’s Darshan, which blends Indian and Western influences. Performing arranged popular pieces like La Vie En Rose and Chaplin’s Smile is another passion of mine - they bring nostalgia and relatabillity to my storytelling through music.
