About

Altus, a fusion of five gifted musicians, Dave Adewumi, Isaac Levien, Neta Raanan, Nathan Reising, and Ryan Sands, embarks on sonic journeys rooted in a decade-long musical bond. Inspired by Black American improvisational traditions, Altus creates narratives that blur the line between immediate experience and timeless mythologies. Their performances, marked by playfulness and narrative focus, promise a unique exploration into the unknown, fueled by a shared love for improvisation.

Music

We perform original compositions and standard jazz repertoire both rooted in the lineage of Black American improvised music. Our music is built on trust, dialogue, and risk-taking, allowing us to create narratives that blur the line between tradition and invention. Drawing on all of our influences we experiment with extended technique and collective improvisation without shying away from the catharsis of swing or the simple beauty of a triad. Through collective composition and improvisation a unified “sixth voice” emerges which defines our sound.
