DESCRIPTION:Hosted by dnj G.\nMusicians: Martin Chalifour\n\nDear friends\,
\n\nWe're so grateful to welcome you back to **dnj gallery** in Santa Moni
ca for a very special groupmuse:\n\n**Martin Chalifour** was concertmaster
of the LAPhil for three decades up until just last year. And we're so for
tunate that such a foundational pillar of Los Angeles Classical Music cult
ure will be sharing his monumental gift with our community in a performanc
e of solo violin masterworks.\n\nWe'll have a program of pieces showcasing
the incredible range of this legendary instrument\, but the centerpiece o
f the program will be **J. S. Bach's** *Chaconne in D Minor* -- thought by
many to be the single greatest piece of music ever written. \n\nJohannes
Brahms himself once said of the piece: "On one stave\, for a small instrum
ent\, the man [Bach] writes a whole world of the deepest thoughts and most
powerful feelings. If I imagined that I could have created\, even conceiv
ed the piece\, I am quite certain that the excess of excitement and earth-
shattering experience would have driven me out of my mind."\n\nIn Chalifou
r's storied and virtuosic hands\, you'll see exactly what ol' Brahms was g
etting at.\n\nCan't wait to see you there!
